MSGA TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Regular monthly tournaments. A husband-wife tournament (optional) is played the first day of each tournament.  A practice round and merchandise tounament (both optional) is played the next day, with the third and fourth days devoted to stroke play.  A ladies tournament of eighteen holes is held on the second or third day.  A team scramble for ladies is played at some tournaments the day following the ladies tournament.
THE HUSBAND-WIFE TOURNAMENT is a two-man scramble divided into flights of eight according to MSGA averages.  There is a prize for low gross.  There are prizes for low net and second place for each flight.  Men and women each use their respective tees and the better ball is selected.
PRACTICE ROUND/MERCHANDISE TOURNAMENT.  A practice round is played and those who wish to pay $10 can also play in the merchandise tournament where the lowest third of the net scores receive $30 in merchandise from the local pro shop.  This is usually based on the stableford system of scoring.
MEN'S TOURNAMENT.  Each player will be placed in a flight of eight according to MSGA averages.  There will be a low gross for the tournament and low net and second place for each flight.  The tournament will be 36 holes.
LADIES TOURNAMENT.  This is an 18 hole stroke play tournament with flights of eight.  There will be a low gross for the tournament and a low net and second place for each flight.
In addition to these tournaments, there is a TWO-MAN SCRAMBLE in May, a FOUR-BALL TOURNAMENT in November and an ANNUAL TOURNAMENT (54 holes) in October.
SOCIAL EVENTS.  Dinners on two or more evenings, preceded by a period of acquaintance renewal and philosophical discussion, are included at each monthly tournament.  There is also a ladies bridge party, social hour and luncheon for the ladies, as well as a last-day brunch.
LODGING.  A local hotel will be selected.  It will be the best value in the area and a local number will be given to take advantage of the MSGA rate.  There will be a cut-off date to secure this rate.
WINTER AND SUMMER TRIPS.  In January and February we will play warm climate resorts and in July and August we will play cooler climate resorts.  (see SCHEDULE and their websites)
GUESTS. Members have the option to invite a couple to attend a tournament with no obligation to join.  They can participate in all activities, but cannot win prizes.
All tournaments are available on a first come - first served basis and on rare occasions a postmark will determine who can be in the tournament.  We are a social group that loves to compete in golf tournaments.  We believe we have a winning format as evidenced by fifty eight years of the MSGA with hundreds of golfers from 17 states.
